CEPE2007 will feature keynote addresses from James H. Moor and Vernor Vinge. Jim Moor, a professor of philosophy at Dartmouth, is well known to CEPE participants as a co-founder of CEPE, former host of CEPE, and the current president of INSEIT. His keynote address will be on “"Why Ethics Is So Crucial in Artificial Intelligence." Vernor Vinge, a professor emeritus of computer science and mathematics at San Diego State University, is a three-time winner of the Hugo Award and the author of numerous science fiction stories and novels. His “True Names” was the first piece of science to explore in detail the concept of cyber space. One of most recent non-fiction pieces, “2020 Computing: The Creativity Machine,” appeared in Nature in 2006.
The 2007 program has a rich set of offerings in a wide range of areas relating to computer ethics, including multiple sessions on roboethics and artificial agents; multiple sessions on the work of Luciano Floridi (who is also a presenter); multiple sessions on trust and the internet; multiple sessions on copyright and IP; robotic weapons systems; vigilante justice in virtual communities; RFID issues; Confucian perspectives on computer ethics; two sessions on ethical standards in ICT; computing and genetic information; virtual virtues; on-line love; informational justice; gender and computer games; several sessions on surveillance and privacy; enhancing decision making; and free software.
